The Siblingship DNA Test – Legal determines whether two or more individuals are full siblings, half siblings, or unrelated by comparing their DNA samples, typically collected via cheek swabs. This test is legally admissible and can be used in court for matters like inheritance or custody. For personal knowledge without legal use, consider the Informational Siblingship Test.
How is this test performed?
The process is straightforward. DNA is collected from the participating siblings, and if available, a known biological parent, using a soft cheek swab. Including a known parent, such as the mother, significantly increases the accuracy of the results. If the siblings are attempting to determine if they share the same father, testing the mother will help differentiate which DNA comes from the mother and which comes from the father(s). Our standard Siblingship DNA Test includes testing for two siblings and one known parent. Additional participants will incur extra fees.
Why might I have this test done?
This test is ideal for determining the likelihood that two individuals are siblings, and the results are legally admissible. If you need the results for personal knowledge without legal use, consider the Informational Siblingship Test, which is not valid for court cases. For any legal needs, the Legal Siblingship Test is recommended.
How are the results reported?
The results show the likelihood of a biological relationship using a siblingship index. An index greater than 1.00 indicates the individuals are more likely to be biological siblings, while an index less than 1.00 suggests they are not likely to be biologically related.
What kind of sample is required?
A cheek swab is required for the test.
How long will it take to get my results?

The Siblingship DNA Test helps determine the likelihood of a biological relationship between siblings by comparing DNA samples from two or more individuals. Typically, this is done by collecting cheek swabs from the individuals being tested, as well as a shared biological parent, if available. The test analyzes the DNA of the siblings to determine whether they are full siblings, half siblings, or unrelated.
Please note: If a known biological parent is not included in the test, the results may be less conclusive.
This test can be used for legal purposes, such as inheritance claims or custody cases. If you only need the test for personal knowledge without legal requirements, consider the Informational Siblingship Test, which is not admissible in court.
